How pictures are stored.

When you bring up a window to find a file to upload, you are given options on where you want to look. For example, if you have the file on your desktop you want, clicking on the desktop icon on the left will take you to your desktop, where you will see the file you want among others. Because you're looking at the desktop folder, you will not only see what's on your desktop but will also be able to go into other places like My Documents and browse from there (my pictures is usually within my documents).

Personally, I like making folders on my desktop to make browsing easier. Then when I want to upload something, I go straight to my desktop and then into the folder I want to find whatever I need.

Now lets talk about files on the internet.

Like your computer, internet website have folders- called directories. But to protect from hacking, most sites won't let you browse their files. Your browser knows how to bring up pages and will let you browse from page to page though and StreetSeen.VI is no different. The main site is at http://www.streetseen.vi and the site itself organizes the files once they're uploaded to keep them easy to access.

So if you want to post a picture, you need to know where it's located. Luckily browsers make that easy. All you need to do is see the picture and you can almost always get its address. Then you can right click on it and, if you are using explorer, go to properties. Then you will see the address (URL). Highlight this address with your mouse and right click. Select copy. You now have this address saved in temporary memory. If you use Firefox, when you right click on an image you can select 'copy image location' to achieve the same thing.

StreetSeen Gallery

First, to create a personal album, click on "my albums"
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Website/Tutorials/Pictures/1b.jpg

Then "create a new album"
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Website/Tutorials/Pictures/2b.jpg

Then fill out the information and click "create a new album"

Note that if you make it private, others will not be able to see it.

Now you will be able to view your new album, but it will be empty. Click upload photos at the right.
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Website/Tutorials/Pictures/3b.jpg

Click browse to find the file you want to upload.
Fill out a subject, and description if you like.
Click upload/submit.

Within that folder you will now see all the pictures you've uploaded. Now everyone will be able to comment on them!

If you want to post any of these pictures in the forums, open the picture you want. Then look below the picture. Click on the BB Code line, then highlight all the text, right click on the text and copy it:
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Website/Tutorials/Pictures/5b.jpg

Then wherever you are typing in StreetSeen to post, you can right click and paste. That will drop in the link to show that picture!

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Website/Tutorials/Pictures/8b.jpg

Note that you could have also right clicked on the picture and copied the link to it (via properties in explorer or clicking on copy link in Firefox) but that would copy the smaller picture. You'd have to click on the again to see the original/fullsize one. Then you can copy the link to it. Note also that when you copy the link this way, you will need to click on the picture icon and give it the address. That will add the and tags around the link for you, so it will show as a pic. OR you can paste the address and add the image tags yourself.

UPLOADING AS ATTACHMENTS

To upload as an attachment to a post, bring up a posting window (via reply, newthread, etc) and click on manage attachments.

This will pop up a window to upload pictures.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Website/Tutorials/Pictures/7b.jpg

Click on browse to select files. You can upload more than one file at once by using the different slots. When you're done, click upload. You will need to wait until it uploads. When its done you will see it under "current attachments." When you have the pictures uploaded, close the window.

Now you are free to post what you like. The images you've attached will appear in a separate box along with your post when you make that post. Note that the attachments window applies only to that post. Of course, you can still get the link to that picture and use it elsewhere...

SHOWING PICTURES FROM OTHER SITES

To link to a picture on another site, all you need to do is copy the address of the picture and paste it into a text box on streetseen with before the address and immediately after the address. That tells streetseen to show that link as a picture. If you have multiple pictures, each one must have its own tags. Remember that if you hotlink, the picture may go away eventually if the site takes them down. Also, a few sites do not allow linking, you will know if they don't because the picture will not show as you'd expect.
