I tend to keep a protectionist posture when it comes to pieces of nostalgia that I hold dear. Fortunately, the Transformers of my childhood did not disappoint which gives me a sliver of hope that Knight Rider may have a similar success.<!--more-->

Yes you heard right, Knight Rider is making a come back according to a press release by NBC. For those who don't know, the original Knight Rider aired on NBC from 1982 until 1986, with David Hasselhoff playing crime fighter Michael Knight with his sidekick K.I.T.T (Knight Industries Two Thousand), a wicked, black Pontiac Trans Am featuring technology that is just now making debuts in cars today.

The man and his ride

Glen Larson created the original series for Universal Television. (NBC and Universal Media Studios are owned by NBC Universal)The network is readying a two-hour back door pilot for the series scheduled to be aired on February 17th, with tentative plans to air it as a TV movie later this season.

The new show will explore the idea of 'evil' cars to offset the new heroic K.I.T.T (Knight Industry Three Thousand),a Ford GT500KR. In fact, according to the press release, there will actually be three versions of K.I.T.T in the show: a 540-hp standard version of the character named K.I.T.T Hero, a super high-speed version that's heavily modified for combat called K.I.T.T

Attack, and a driverless version called KITT Remote. According to NBC, K.I.T.T in the modern era is a supercomputer capable of hacking anything that plugs into a wall, and thanks to progress made in the area of nanotechnology, its body can shift both its shape and color. Is it me or is there a little hint of robots in disguise here?

Well sometimes you have to go with what works. Now don’t get me wrong the mustang looks good and I am sure it can do the job. But in sticking with nostalgia, wouldn't you think they can get a concept highly modified Trans-AM to do the same thing? How ever I will say that when they changed the characters in transformers I was not to heart broken and it did work. (Bumble-Bee from VW bug to Camaro, Megatron from large gun to Flying plane/space ship).
