This is the all new Mercedes Benz C63 AMG. And next year, it will be coming to the US.

You may remember the old C class, which matched an small engine in an odd hatchback body to a plastic and cloth interior. You might have wondered who would possibly buy that as opposed to say, the Lexus ES or the benchmark 3 series.
Based on sales numbers, customers agreed.
Sure, there was a sedan, but it wasn't that much better in either luxury (vs the ES) or sport (vs the 3 series). They also had an AMG version of the car, but even AMG could only do so much with that starting point. AMG's effort was a good one however, with about 360 horsepower out of a 5.5l naturally aspirated V8. The transmission was a 5 speed automatic, and the suspension received semi-sport treatment. Despite that, it was never really a M3 competitor.
Until now.
Mercedes is in the middle of a turn around you see. They've recognize that they lost the magic they once had and are hard at work to restore their name. One of their new products aimed at doing just that is the new C class. It's an important car- the C class is one of Mercedes most popular cars. And it's not just important here in the US- it's a global car, so it has to be good on a global basis. Really good.
Well Mercedes has stepped up its game. And the new C class not only looks the part, but it plays it too. It's a real competitor in the $30k segment, and with AMG turning its focus on it, it's now a real competitor in the $60k segment. The rework is more than skin deep: the new AMG features 451 horsepower and 443lb ft of torque. The suspension has been reworked to such an extent that the car is over an inch wider. The brakes have been redone as has the interior. The car's no longer polite. It's now an animal.
Yes, the car's heavy at about two tons, but don't get it twisted: this car is quick: (C/D tested) 3.9 sec to 60mph quick. 12.3 seconds @ 116mph in the quarter mile quick.
Mercedes is back in the game. If you ever come across something like this on the road, be advised: It's not your grandfather's Benz.
