View Full Version : Drag Racing
We are thinking about holding an event on the track, I am worried about fan turn out. I would like your input, as a fan and a racer, on what would you like a drag racing event to be like.
The plan is not finalized as yet but let me pitch it to you:
Title: Battle of the Streets: Drag Wars 1
The idea is to organize about 60 vehicles (car, bikes...etc) from St. Thomas and also match the same amount on St. Croix. The is a what St. Coix vs. St. Thomas is really suppose to be and not what the CDRA does. I know you are tired of hearing "St. Thomas coming" and when you get there it is the same four (4) cars you've seen for the past three (3) years.
I need your input to try to organize this event. I am also thinking of making a charitable donation with a portion of the proceeds to a charity that would actually do something with the money.
It is time that we stand out and do something that we want rather than standing by and being fed junk from the CDRA. I am not a hater of the CDRA but I just would like to do something different. I know by the time this news get out to them...they are going to go sky-high on the rent of even try to steal our idea, but we cannot give up!
Any Question or Comments, please post it.
Thank You

Ok I feel you. What the CDRA has forgotten is that we all have to start some place. The lack of mutual respect for the street racers has been prevalent for a long time. Now with that said the street racers do need to step up to the plate and represent like I know they can. Even if you got beef with some one just settle it on and the track and leave it there. So if we can get them man to put aside there differences and come out in full force this can be an event to remember.:h5: It all starts with the racers committing to racing and showing up on time ready to race. Truth be told Cruzan time dose always kill a lot of events:rl: . So timing and organization will be crucial for this to work. But keep in mind you will never please everyone:dunno: . You can do a mach race mania were anyone can challenge any one. And the Street wars bracket race for cars and bike’s, and at one time there was a mini bike challenge that you could try again. $10.00 for big people $5.00 children under 12yr. no band….!:nono: An I-pod playing music is fine. Put the concession out for bid with a split of total collection or an up front fee. Get youth groups to volunteer there time to help with clean up and regular event choirs. Get a major sponsor to commit to half of the purse so what ever you get from the racers to race they will match it. And have pay out ready to pay at the end of race not check me next week and I going right you a check.….!

sounds good to me....i put it up on the main page.
questions im thinking about:
1. who owns the track? what is the relationship between the CDRA and them? who would you need to contact about using the track?
2. would you want the CDRA involved? if yes, they would need to be formally approached. what might they want? if no, where would the lighting and other necessary equipment come from? who would be backing everything needed?
3. what if one island has a lot more cars vs the other? how would the races be organized? and in general, what would be a good layout/arrangement for the races?
in the mean time it would be useful to see what people think about the idea itself. it sounds really good to me.

Not sure who owns it. I don't think any private person dose. If I am not mistaken the Port authority donated the land to the CDRA as a not for profit organization. You probably would need to speak to the CDRA president not sure who that is these day's
Well you would have to have some members of the organization involved with running the lights and timing equipment. They will charge a fee for the use of the track, don't know how much. You would have to use there system because to set up another system besides there’s is just not feasible, there’s is permanently installed. If Stx has more cars than Stt for example you would pair up the cars by time and it would work it self out.

hmm makes sense. your other ideas make sense too.
if port authority donated the land to the cdra, then that would imply that the cdra owns the land.. unless port authority is leasing it to cdra at no cost, or something like that. i would imagine that the only way the cdra can impose a fee to use the land is if they own it. ill figure it out though. maybe the cdra is willing to assist with this since they might prefer not to do stuff with street cars themselves.

First let me say that I am happy to see the man dem finally tackling this one. I am just a remote observer of the track saga but from what little I am privy to, I can say with a degree of confidence that the track has not attained its truest potential as a "real" staple of the VI street scene. That said, I would say TCM that if I were in your shoes, before I tried to organize any events, I would get "organized." In specific, get others (the more the merrier) who feel like you to form a solid group so that your unified voices have a better chance of being heard. Its cliche but the reality is there is strength in numbers. This is what the CDRA has above all else- they are organized. Get the serious, consistent street racers together, resolve all beefs behind the scenes, organize around the "strongest" members and then push your unified agenda. From there, I feel that any idea you guys may have from there out will have a real shot at fruition and sustainment. Good luck playa....
Organization is the key to success!!! I am one fish is a big pond, that is why I need your help. This is not about the money, but about the love of racing and the desire to move the "Street Class" into the forefront. Your input will be vital to this thing happening.
The idea is to have 60 vehicles matched up for the first round. The hardest part is organizing is the first round. 60 is a big number...but we are hoping it could be a two day event.
We do not mind if the CDRA is on with this, but from the past they have proven themselves disloyal. Look at what happened to the "King of the Street" event, it was successful but when it was time for the second event the rent for the facility was almost trippled (that is what I heard).
Hey this is just an idea, I've already spoken to a lot of street racers on the Rock. They are pretty excited with the idea even if they have to pay there way to come over.
Well there is a street wars coming soon 10's 11's an 12's street war...should be next month....no confirmation yet....
How many cars could be in this event if it is so limited? Right now the 13's field might be the largest...I am saying maybe it sould be included, but that just my 2 cents.

the cdra is leasing the land from port authority, but if the track is needed the person to taslk to is bates, i think he is the president now, now the whole thing right now is wah freddy seh, racers over here dus hold grudge over stupid reasons, they need to stop acting like little children for once and get together to get this event going, now the thing is to get every one together to hold a meeting about it

Again from past experience the largest hurdle is full commitment from the racers. Not trying to bad talk or put any one down but the truth is a lot of people will say by mouth they are down but on race day they can’t be found. Granted if you testing and you break something that is understandable. But all to often they just no show. Not sure what it will take….first born child, a quart of blood, ransom their stereo…..just kidding…or maybe a $50.00 deposit up front refundable race day towards your race entrance fee….?
