Hyundai says their new Genesis will offer a driving experience that will "challenge cars like the Infiniti G37 at prices more like (the) Mitsubishi Eclipse."
They're claiming 300+ horsepower, rear drive, in an affordable package that will replace the current Tiburon.
Hyundai went on to claim that the mission for the car "was to create a pure performance car with a design that would capture the imagination of hardcore automotive enthusiasts." Word on the street is the E46 generation BMW M3 was another benchmark for the car.

Although specs on the production trim have not been finalized, Hyundai has provided these preliminary production stats for the car, which will bow in March 2008 and hit the streets in early 2009:
-3.8L V6 engine producing 300+hp and 250+ lbft
-aluminum block and head, DOHC, continuously variable valve timing
-0->60mph in under 6.0 seconds
-6 speed manual transmission
-340mm (13.4") front two piston Brembo brakes, 330mm rear two piston Brembo brakes
-available limited slip differential
