Happy Birthday to Tekk's GT-R! How to celebrate?

On this day one year ago, it breathed life for the first time in Tochigi!!
:party::bday::celebrate::bandit::king::rock:

The good news is, all is well with it. After some ups and downs and some learning experiences, we're having a great time. The bad news, we're in need of new tires. Being its birthday and all I figure I gotta buy stuff for it. Tires are on the list. But which ones? and what else? The decision's gotta get made today...

Bridgestone Potenza RE070R RFT
These tires seem to have been the tires of choice in the development of the car, for every day warm weather conditions. I would guess these tires got the most development time on the car at the Ring. There they got the GT-R to a 7'38". Of course, they are summer only tires. They're also runflat, with stiff sidewalls and large tread blocks. For all GT-Rs to 2009 they were the "premium" tires. Fun fact- In Japan MSRP was about US$1k/ea but just lowered to US$800/ea

These were quite the surprise. Not too long after GT-R sales started in Japan, it was discovered they were faster than the RE070Rs. Maybe that's why Nissan fitted them to the GT-Rs that were oriented to be sold to race teams. These tires have gotten the GT-R to 7'26" on the Ring and are generally seen as a second or so faster per lap on most tracks vs the RE070Rs. They too are runflat, with stiff sidewalls, large tread blocks and a very soft tire compound. Despite being of similar treadwear to the RE070Rs, they've even been said to be faster than Toyo's GT-R sized R888 R-Compound road course competition tires. These tires are fitted to the SpecV as optional equipment and are standard on new Premium edition GT-Rs in Europe. Word on the street is tire life is a lot shorter though, with some saying half the life.

I have 9,400 miles on my GT-R of which about 6,900 was spent on St Croix.


So what says the Seen? Dunlops or Bridgestone?
For what its worth, pricing is similar, Dunlops are a little more but not significant. It'll cost an arm and a leg either way lol..

And how else should I celebrate? Maybe some clear corners? Datalogging equipment? Harnesses Setup? There aren't any wheels I really like so that's off the list... but maybe something else?

dus your car have a speed limit at 159

nah the japanese models are limited to 180kph/111mph ... us specs have no limiter.. can run clean to 196mph or so

yep the front corner lights on my car are orange... in japan and europe they are clear.. its an easy swap

tires shipped yesterday :bowdown:

next question is if i should change all 4 even though the rears aren't completely done yet. will be talking with a gtr tech this week about it. dont want to make the diffs and computer unhappy. in the g35 it could cause the computer to force the car into sudden oversteer/understeer without warning. not fun...

after that, the question will be if the machine will be able to break the beads or if the tires have to get sawed off...
